Three hospitalized in three-car crash in Visalia

Three Visalia residents were taken to the hospital as a result of a three-car crash on Highway 198 Saturday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The driver of a 1998 Chevy Prizm was driving in the right lane of westbound Highway 198 just west of Demaree Street and switched into the left lane about 5 p.m. Traffic in the left lane was stopped, and the driver of the Chevy didn't slow in time to stop, the CHP said.

The Chevy hit the back of a 2010 GMC Acadia, which hit the 1999 Dodge Ram stopped in front of it.

The person sitting in the middle back seat of the Chevy was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown into the windshield. Three of the four passengers in the Chevy, including a minor, were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center where they were treated for minor to major injuries, CHP said.

The accident is under investigation.
