Rawhide Report for 6/14: Visalia 6, Inland Empire 2

The Fresno BeeJune 14, 2014

Big bat: Brandon Jacobs, the No. 8 hitter in the lineup but a major power threat, blasted a two-run homer in the second inning for a 3-0 lead and Visalia went on to beat Inland Empire 6-2 on Saturday to close the Cal League's first half.

Numbers game: Jacobs, 23, went 3 for 4 and though that raised his average to just .235, the homer was his ninth in 166 at-bats. He hit a career-high 17 for Greenville of the Class-A South Atlantic League in 2011.

Up next: The four-game All-Star break is underway, with the Cal and Carolina league stars to meet Tuesday in Wilmington, Del. Visalia resumes the regular season at 7 p.m. Thursday, with the first of a four-game home series against San Jose.
