Sanger man, 67, dies after crashing into power pole

A 67-year-old man died after his vehicle slammed into a power pole just south of Sanger on Friday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

The Sanger man was identified as Ernesto Hernandez by the Fresno County Coroner's Office. He died at the scene of the crash at Academy Avenue, south of Central Avenue, around 9:30 p.m.

Hernandez's 1999 Mitsubishi Galant veered off northbound Academy Avenue and into a dirt and gravel center divide for an unknown reason, the CHP said. He then turned his car to the right and lost control of the vehicle. The Mitsubishi traveled across both lanes of northbound Academy Avenue and struck a power pole on the east side of the roadway, killing Hernandez.
