Officers compete in Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics

The Clovis Police Department, California Highway Patrol and the Fresno County Sheriff's Office will participate in The Torch Run 8 a.m.-10:30 a.m. June 17 at Chukchansi Park, H and Inyo streets and end at the 500 Club, Willow and Shaw avenues. Proceeds benefit local Special Olympics athletes. The public is encouraged to participate.

Reedley native to sign books

Reedley native and author Doreen A. Oken will sign copies of her book "I am a Trophy Wife: A Tale of Narcissistic Proportions" 6:30-7:30 p.m. June 19 at David's, 1032 G St. in Reedley. The event benefits Relay for Life and the book will be available for purchase and autographs by the author.

Clovis Democratic Club to hold tri-tip dinner fundraiser

The Clovis Democratic Club will hold a fundraiser at 6 p.m. June 19 at Bi-Centennial Park, Sierra and Sunnyside avenues in Clovis.

There will be a tri-tip dinner, salads, desserts, patriotic speeches and music. The cost is $20.

The Fresno Newcomers/Friendship club will hold a luncheon at noon June 19 at the San Joaquin Country Club, 3484 W. Bluff Ave.

McLane High 50th reunion to be held at Meux Home

McLane High School Class of '64 will hold its 50th reunion 6-10 p.m. June 20 at the historical Meux Home, 1007 R St. The evening will include the Fresno State jazz band and light hors d' oeuvres.

The reunion will continue with a no-host bar at 6 p.m. and dinner June 21 at Fort Washington Golf and Country Club, 10272 N. Millbrook Ave.

Cost for both events is $64; casual dress.

Color of Life Gala to benefit children with disabilities

Sweet Nectar Society, an organization that provides free photography sessions to children with serious illnesses or disabilities, will hold The Color of Life Gala at 6:30 p.m. June 20 at The Loft Events, 1028 N. Fulton St. Proceeds benefit the organization's mission to reach local families. The event will feature a cocktail hour, silent and special live auctions, live music, tapas bar, a program and dancing.

Tickets cost $100, $175 for two.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters to hold yard sale June 21

Big Brothers Big Sisters will have a yard sale 7 a.m.-noon June 21 at 905 N. Fulton St. Proceeds benefit the program's volunteer activities.

Fresno Republican Women Federated to host speaker

Fresno County and City Republican Women Federated will meet 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. June 26 at Fresno Ramada University Hotel, 324 E. Shaw Ave. Featured speaker will be "Hometown Heroes" host Paul Loeffler, who will speak on the Honor Guard.

Garden Party to benefit Children's Theaterworks

A Garden Party will be held 5-8 p.m. June 29 at Gazebo Gardens, 3204 N. Van Ness Blvd. Proceeds benefit Children's Musical Theaterworks to provide professional training and performance opportunities in theater for kids ages 6-20.

Festivities will include no-host craft beer, hors d'oeuvres by Benaddiction and a silent auction. The cost is $35.

Central California SPCA holds 50% off sale through June 30

Central California Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is holding a 50% off sale on adoption fees for all cats and dogs through June 30 at 103 S. Hughes Ave.

Adoptions include spay/neuter, vaccines, de-worming, microchip, Fresno city dog license and flea and tick treatment.

The cost for dogs is $90 up to 5 years and $75 senior 6 years and older. Cat fees, $35 for kittens up to 12 months, $30 over 12 months to 5 years and $20 6 years and older.
