The Fresno BeeJune 12, 2014

Rough start: Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Trevor Cahill, optioned all the way down to Class-A ball after being designated for assignment by the major league team, was tagged for four earned runs in two innings as visiting Visalia fell 4-2 to Inland Empire in a Cal League game Thursday night.

A little wild: Cahill hit two batters in the first inning while also allowing a run-scoring double to Wake Hinkle and a three-run homer to Cal Towey.

Up next: Rawhide RH Braden Shipley (0-0, 3.75 ERA) faces RH Michael Clevinger (1-1, 4.88) as the series continues at 7:05 p.m. Friday. Shipley makes his third start since a promotion from South Bend. He has struck out 15 in 12 innings, but also has walked six and allowed two homers.
