A 23-year-old Clovis man who described himself as a "beach bum" won the grand prize in Wednesday's Granville Home of Hope charity drawing -- a cottage-style home valued at more than $310,000.

Andrew Tobin was at the beach when his mother, Amy Tobin, called to let him know he'd won. She bought the winning ticket for him and attended the drawing.

"Oh my God, I can't believe it," Andrew Tobin said on the call, which was broadcast over the public address system at the home site.

Amy Tobin said her son is most likely to take the $100,000 cash prize option instead of the home and hopes he'll use it to go back to school.

"He's 23 -- what is he going to do with a house?" she said.

There were 3,530 tickets sold in this year's annual drawing, according to event coordinator Brittany Conrad, raising $353,000 for the eight charities and nonprofits that will benefit, including the Community Food Bank and Poverello House.

The 1,301-square-foot house is in the Copper River Ranch community near Copper Avenue and North Friant Drive. The 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home has granite countertops, a full alarm system, and Granville Eco-Smart technology.
