A Fresno man was arrested by Fresno County sheriff's deputies after he allegedly attempted to kidnap a teen girl in northwest Fresno.

The man, Jermaine Henry Birdson, 33, was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping.

Deputies responded to the area of Shaw and Roosevelt avenues shortly before 3 p.m. regarding a kidnapping call.

The 14-year-old victim told deputies she was walking eastbound on Shaw Avenue toward Maroa when she was approached by Birdson. He tried to talk to the girl, but she became scared and continued walking.

At one point, Birdson walked up to her and attempted to hug her. The victim said she pushed him away and tried to run, but Birdson grabbed her around the waist.

The victim fought back, hitting, kicking and biting Birdson. The teen broke free and ran home, where she called police.

Assisted by Fresno police, deputies found Birdson at a nearby bus stop. The victim was not injured in the incident.
