The Clovis High baseball team was named Cal-Hi Sports' 2014 State Team of the Year on Monday.

Near the top of the state rankings all season long, the Cougars took care of business by defeating Buchanan 3-2 in the Central Section Division I championship at Visalia's Recreation Park on May 24.

The Cougars (33-5) were led by Jake Gatewood and McCarthy Tatum, and both were selected in last week's Major League Baseball draft.

This marks the third time Clovis has earned the honor and first since going back-to-back in 1997 and 1998.

Minarets earned an honor as well as Cal-Hi named it the Division V Team of the Year. The Mustangs won the section championship 3-2 over Farmersville and finished with a 29-5 record.
