An early morning attic fire in southeast Fresno caused $100,000 damage to a four-unit apartment complex, the Fresno Fire Department said Monday.
About 3:40 a.m. Monday, firefighters were called to a blaze at 1520 S. Orange Ave. A second alarm was requested because of the fire's size and potential to spread, bringing approximately 30 firefighters to the complex.
Five people were displaced and are being temporarily housed by the American Red Cross. No one was injured. The fire was caused by an accidental malfunction of electrical equipment, officials said.
Around 5 a.m. another fire broke out about half a mile away at 3815 E. Dwight Ave. Fifteen firefighters were required to put out a blaze that occurred in a vacant and boarded-up single-story home. Damage is estimated at $20,000, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
