Six Central Unified School District students were taken to area hospitals Monday afternoon with apparent minor injuries after a school bus was struck by a pickup truck west of Fresno.

The collision occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on Kearney Boulevard and Cornelia Avenue. California Highway Patrol spokesman Brad Simpson said the bus was westbound on Kearney Boulevard with the right-of-way when the pickup, northbound on Cornelia Avenue, pulled out in front of it.

The pickup driver apparently believed there were stop signs at all four corners of the intersection, Simpson said.

The front of the bus was heavily damaged.

There were about 20 students on the bus. It was not immediately known which school the children attended. CHP was routing traffic around the intersection.
