Fresno police investigate bloody weekend shootings

Fresno police dealt with two unrelated "bloody" shootings late Saturday and early Sunday in central Fresno.

The first happened at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday near Fairmont and Marks avenues and is believed to be gang related, said Fresno police Sgt. Mike Smith.

A vehicle carrying four people passed a group of men on West Fairmont Avenue when one of the men shot at the car, which was stuck many times. One female occupant was hit in the back of her neck, and another person had a cut on his ear believed to be from broken glass, Smith said.

None of the suspects have been identified, and police are investigating the incident.

The second shooting resulted in the arrest of 29-year-old Jose Zepeda early Sunday after he shot a woman at Aldo's Nightclub on Belmont Avenue, stole her car and was followed by a witness who provided details to police.

Zepeda was kicked out of the nightclub right after 1 a.m. Sunday and began arguing with the 28-year-old victim in her BMW parked in front of the club, Smith said. Witnesses told police that Zepeda beat the woman and then held a gun right to her stomach and shot her, Smith said. She is expected to survive her injuries.

Zepeda then took off in the woman's car, and a witness followed him and called 911. Police caught up to him at Crystal and Whitesbridge avenues in southwest Fresno and arrested him.

Zepeda is being charged for assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking and domestic violence. The investigation is ongoing.
