An injured kayaker was rescued from Madera County's high country Friday afternoon, a county sheriff's spokeswoman said.
A Madera County sheriff's team team began searching for a five-person kayaking crew after authorities received a distress call about noon near Balloon Dome in the Ansel Adams Wilderness, spokeswomen Erica Stuart said.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter crew located the group about an hour later and, with the help of a medic on board, hoisted the injured kayaker. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center. Details of his injuries were not known, Stuart said.
The kayaking crew appeared to be well prepared. In addition to having a device that sent the distress signal, the crew left an emergency contact, which is how searchers knew the number of people involved, Stuart said.
