Coach Lehr's great legacy

FresnoJune 6, 2014

On May 22, the Mickey Cox Elementary School community was shocked and shaken by the unexpected passing of a long-time popular teacher and coach, Kevin Lehr.

Mr. Lehr, affectionately known as "Woody" to his buddies, had been a sixth-grade teacher at Cox for 31 years. I had the privilege of working and coaching with him all of those years. Mr. Lehr was an advocate for all students in the classroom and on the sports field. His unique ability to counsel and guide many students inspired me as an educator, as well.

Never one to say "no," Mr. Lehr always stepped up to the plate and hit challenges head on. Kevin was dedicated to seeing the job through each year and prepared countless students for junior high. Those who knew him will remember him as "Coach Lehr." His legacy will live on for years to come and he will be missed.
