Fresno woman, recent Seattle Pacific graduate, reflects on campus shooting

Mark Baker of Fresno was relieved to get a call from his daughter, Christie Baker, a recent graduate of Seattle Pacific University who lives near the school, saying she was OK in the wake of Thursday's shooting on campus.

"It's one thing to read about this at some other school and something else when it's a school your daughter is at," Mark Baker said.

Christie Baker, 22, said she was at work when the shootings happened. A sociology major, she graduated in the winter quarter from the university. But she had friends who remained in lockdown on campus Thursday evening, she said, and two had texted that they were OK.

The shootings saddened her, she said. "I hope that there isn't a lot of hate toward the man who was the shooter. I hope there's love toward him, too, and I hope it makes us think about our gun laws and how maybe we can change that so this won't keep happening on campuses."
