Crash near Prather kills motorcyclist, passenger

A motorcyclist and his passenger died Thursday night in a solo-vehicle crash on Auberry Road near Prather, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The 30-year-old rider and his female passenger, 28, were northbound on Auberry Road south of Highway 168 on a Kawasaki Ninja at a high rate of speed about 8 p.m. when the crash occurred.

The CHP said the rider was unable to negotiate a right-hand curve, crossed over double-yellow lines, up an embankment and slammed into an oak tree. Both died at the scene.

No other details about the crash were immediately available.

Neither was identified pending notification of next of kin.
