Fresno police investigate two shooting victims

The Fresno BeeJune 5, 2014

Police are investigating whether two people with gunshot wounds who showed up at different hospitals were involved in the same shooting in southeast Fresno Thursday night.

Officers were called to the 2300 block of East Grant Avenue for a gang disturbance around 5:30 p.m. Thursday evening. Around 6:30 p.m. police received a second report of gunshots at the same location, Sgt. Mike Smith said.

When officers reached the area, they found a vehicle one block away driving with a flat tire, possibly as a result of a gunshot, he said. The vehicle had taken the victim to Community Regional Medical Center. Police were trying to determine whether the victim accidentally shot himself or was shot by someone else. Officers also located shell casings in the area.

Later on in the evening, another gunshot victim arrived at Saint Agnes Medical Center with a wound to the hand. Police were trying to determine whether the two shootings are connected.
