Two men killed in Madera drive-by shootings

Madera police are investigating two murders Wednesday night that happened in separate drive-by shootings.

Sgt. Robert Salas said the first took place about 9:15 p.m. in the 800 block of South C Street, where a 20-year-old man was struck by gunfire. The victim, later identified as Jesus Maclovio Camacho, died at Madera Community Hospital. A black Nissan SUV fled the area after the shooting.

Then a 36-year-old man was shot at 11:24 p.m. in the 200 block of Park Street. The victim, later identified as Vincent Salazar, died after being taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. Salas said a white Hyundai Sonata sped away from the shooting scene.

There have been five homicides in Madera this year, compared to 8 for all of 2013. Anyone with information on the shootings is asked to call detectives at (559) 675-4220 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.
