Visalia police: 2 men shoot at another car during predawn chase through city streets

The Fresno BeeJune 4, 2014

Visalia police say two men were arrested on attempted murder charges after they shot at a car during a chase early Wednesday morning.

The incident started about 4:30 a.m. when police received a call of a drive-by shooting at Caldwell Avenue and Dans Street, in the southwest part of the city near Visalia Nazarene Church.

Police say the victim then called, saying he was being chased and shot at.

Officers spotted the suspects' car at Akers Street and Tulare Avenue, nearly 3 miles northwest of where the first shooting was reported, and rammed it a short distance away at Demaree Street and Meadow Avenue.

A passenger in the car ran through several yards and was arrested on a rooftop. Two guns were seized. Arrested were Michael Anthony Orenelas Jr., 22, and Joey Anthony Leija, 22.

Police say the victim wasn't hurt, and that investigators determined the shooting was gang-related.
