Fresno man gets prison for child porn at county library

The Fresno BeeJune 2, 2014

A Fresno man who was looking at child pornography on the Fresno County Public Library's WiFi system was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release, U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner said.

Victor Duane Smith, 59, was also ordered to pay $5,000 to a child shown in five of the images.

In July 2013, law enforcement began tracking someone who was using the library's wireless system to look at child pornography through a file-sharing program, court documents revealed. Investigators watched Smith in the library while he used the file-sharing program, and he later confessed, Wagner said.
