On Dec. 8, 1965, I swore the following oath:
"I, John Salenik, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."
There was and is no expiration date to that oath, nor did I ever expect one. I have kept allegiance to my oath for more than 48 years.
Four days ago, amid the flurry of VA revelations, President Obama stated: "It is important that our veterans don't become another political football".
Mr. President, if you don't want us to be the "political football," quit continuing to allow us to be kicked down range!
