A 66-year-old Madera man was killed Sunday morning when his vehicle ran into an Amtrak train southeast of the city.

The man was identified Monday morning by the Madera County Sheriff's Office as Ruben Perez Moncada.

The California Highway Patrol said Moncada was heading east on Avenue 12 about 7:30 a.m. when he drove his Pontiac through the crossing arms of railroad tracks near Road 32. The Pontiac struck a passenger car on the train.

There were no reports of injuries on the train. The CHP said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision.
