Fresno police arrest man hiding gun in soda cup

Fresno police arrested a west Fresno gang member late Friday night during a traffic stop after spotting a handgun hidden in a 32-ounce soda cup.

Officers stopped a suspicious vehicle near Golden State Boulevard and Pine Avenue in central Fresno just before midnight. While one officer spoke to the driver, 22-year-old Denzel Dixon, another officer directed a flashlight into the car and noticed what looked like a pistol handle in a soda cup.

The officers asked Dixon to get out of the car and found a loaded .25-caliber handgun in the cup. The cup was placed behind Dixon, making it apparent that he was trying to hide the gun, police said.

Dixon, who police said has an extensive criminal history, was booked into the Fresno County Jail on multiple gun violations.
