A Porterville man was booked into Tulare County Jail on suspicion of DUI after a motorcycle crash Saturday (May 24) afternoon that critically injured his female passenger, Porterville police reported Tuesday.

Mathew Carazolez, 24, lost control of the motorcycle on Westfield Avenue near Beverly Street right after 2 p.m., police said. No other vehicles were involved.

His female passenger wasn't wearing a helmet and was airlifted to a Fresno hospital. As of Tuesday afternoon she was reported to be in critical but stable condition, Porterville police said.

Carazolez was transported to Sierra View District Hospital for multiple scrapes. Police said he admitted to recently consuming alcohol and showed signs of being intoxicated.

He was also arrested for suspicion of reckless driving and causing bodily injury to another person, police said.

The incident is under investigation.
