High school rodeo: Sanger's Dodds named all-around cowboy at state finals

Sanger's Cole Dodds, at left with twin brother Cobie Dobbs, was named the all-around cowboy after placing in the top four of five events during the junior high division of the California State High School Rodeo Finals held May 16-18 in Plymouth.

Sanger's Cole Dodds was named the all-around cowboy after placing in the top four of five events during the junior high division of the California State High School Rodeo Finals held May 16-18 in Plymouth.

Dodds was first in team roping with twin brother Cobie Dobbs, first in ribbon roping with partner Hannah Steagel of Sanger, first in boys goat tying, third in tie down roping and fourth in chute dogging.

Cobie Dobbs was second in tie down roping, second in boys goat tying, third in chute dogging and third ribbon roping with partner Andee Poole of Clovis while earning reserve all around cowboy honors.

Steagel, the reserve all around cowgirl, was also fourth in girls goat tying.

Other local placers included Sanger's Payson Holman (third in boys goat tying, fourth in ribbon roping with partner Cassidy Cook of Reedley), Poole (fifth in pole bending) and Jordan Madrigal of Sanger (fourth in pole bending).

The top four in each category qualified for the National High School Rodeo, junior high division, set for June 22-28 in Des Moines, Iowa.
