Load up on great Valley fun

May 27, 2014

On a recent weekend in the Central Valley, my family and I filled just about every minute with Valley fun.

Friday evening, we went to the Armenian Festival at the St. Paul Armenian Church in Fresno. We ate a delicious chicken dinner and then enjoyed the music, dancers and vendors in the church courtyard. On our way home, we stopped in for the last hour of the Clovis Old Town Farmers Market.

On Saturday, we went to the Kingsburg Swedish Festival. We ate Swedish pancakes and meatballs before checking out the cultural village along Draper Street. On our way home, we stopped at Simonian Farms in Fresno.

That night, we attended the final performance of "Shrek, The Musical" at the Mercedes Theatre in Clovis. The Clovis North High School cast and crew deserved the standing ovation they got at the end of that stellar performance. What a rollicking good time!

That left Sunday for our jaunt to Roeding Park for the Fresno Pirate Festival. We attended pirate school, listened to various musicians and singers, and saw a great performance by a Jack Sparrow-like street performer from San Francisco.

You can't say there's nothing to do here in the Valley.
