• Giant surge: San Jose's Ydwin Villegas, Chuckie Jones and Shawn Payne hit consecutive singles to start the fifth and snap a 1-1 tie as the Giants went on to beat visiting Visalia 3-1 in a Cal League game Saturday night.

• Blair still waiting: Visalia RH Aaron Blair (0-1) remains in search of the first win of his Cal League career. The 22-year-old selected 32nd overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2013 draft, struck out five but was charged with three earned runs in 52/3 innings. He was 1-2 at South Bend of the Midwest League before his promotion to advanced-A ball in early May.

• Up next: Visalia RH Jesse Darrah (3-1, 4.84 ERA) was to face San Jose LH Ryan Bradley (0-2, 10.97) as the series continues at noon Sunday.
