A fuel tanker spilled diesel in southeast Fresno on Friday night, shutting down the East North Avenue onramp to Highway 99 temporarily as cleanup crews worked to remove 50 to 70 gallons of fuel, said Keola Park, a spokesman for the Fresno Fire Department.
Apparently the truck ran over a piece of debris that kicked up into the fuel tanks, puncturing one of them.
The spill on the onramp was reported about 8:15 p.m. Fresno County's environmental health division was also notified, Park said.
A private contractor dealt with the hazardous waste cleanup on the ground, said Todd Tuggle, another Fresno Fire spokesman. The spill was contained approximately 11 p.m. Friday, and the cleanup was completed prior to Saturday morning, Tuggle said.
