Broken water main floods northeast Fresno street

The Fresno BeeMay 24, 2014

A broken water main Saturday morning has flooded a northeast Fresno street, said Todd Tuggle, a spokesman with the Fresno Fire Department.

Water is flooding Cedar Avenue, just south of Shepherd Avenue, and has closed the street, Tuggle said. Reports of the flooded street came in around 11 a.m., he said. The cause of the break was unknown, Tuggle said.

The leak was stopped as of about 2 p.m. but there was still residual water on Shepherd east of Cedar, Tuggle said. Approximately 40 to 60 homes have lost water supply due to the water main break.

City water crews were attempting to repair the ruptured line. There was no estimate for completion of the repairs and restoration of water to the homes, Tuggle said.
