Fires sparked near highways 41/180 interchange in central Fresno

The Fresno BeeMay 24, 2014

Suspicious activity was reported in connection to multiple vegetation fires burning late Friday afternoon around the highways 41 and 180 interchange in central Fresno, but firefighters don't have evidence confirming they were intentionally set, said Battalion Chief Todd Tuggle, a spokesman for the Fresno Fire Department.

The fire department received some reports that people were seen leaving the scene of the fires, Tuggle said. The fires were a quarter-acre to half-acre in size and were put out quickly by firefighters, he said.

There was at least one fire behind Tehipite Middle School and possibly another north of Highway 180, Tuggle said.
