Crews to burn 149 acres in Sequoia National Park

The Fresno BeeMay 23, 2014

The National Park Service announced that a prescribed burn will take place in Sequoia National Park on Tuesday and Wednesday, weather and air conditions permitting.

The last time this area was burned with a prescribed fire was in 2001. The burn will help lower the risk of serious wildfire. A number of trails in and around the burn area will be closed.

Anne Birkholz, a spokeswoman for Sequoia National Park, said prescribed burns are even more important during a severe drought.
