A monument marking 100 years since the Armenian genocide will be built on the Fresno State campus in April 2015, the university said.
The monument will be funded through private contributions to the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee and approved by the Campus Planning Committee.
Historians estimate that up to 1.5 million Armenians were killed by Ottoman Turks around the time of World War I, an event widely viewed by scholars as the first genocide of the 20th century.
The monument will be placed near the east end of the Rose Garden. It will be designed by Paul Halajian, a Fresno architect.
