Resident detained at scene of Fresno house fire

A resident was taken into custody at the scene of a blaze that engulfed their east-central Fresno home on Tuesday night, Fresno Fire Department spokesman Koby Johns said.

The resident of the home at Laureen and Norwich avenues, identified as Jason Neil Robbins, 32, was detained for an unrelated warrant and for obstructing police officers, Lt. Joe Gomez said. Robbins is a possible suspect for arson, Gomez said.

The cause of the 9 p.m. fire is under investigation, although "there were early, early reports that someone intentionally lit the fire," Johns said.

The fire displaced five people, who are being housed by the American Red Cross, Johns said.

The two-alarm fire started in the garage of the single-story home and spread into the house. Johns said it took firefighters about 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
