A Caruthers man was killed Monday afternoon when his vehicle collided with a big rig near Riverdale, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The Fresno County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Lorenzo Lebres Rodriguez, 40.

The crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. Monday. The victim was driving a Chevrolet north on Highway 41, south of Laguna Avenue. A Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Martin Astiasuain, 27, of Reedley was southbound on the highway.

Both vehicles were moving about 55 mph when the Chevrolet went into a spin and collided with the truck.

Two passengers in the car -- Juan Carlos Alcantar, 38 and Juan D. Rodriguez, 39 -- both of Caruthers, sustained minor injuries. Astiasuain sustained moderate injuries.
