Two-alarm fire rips through Fresno home, garage

The Fresno BeeMay 17, 2014

Three fire departments scrambled Saturday afternoon to stop a fast-moving fire in the Calwa area, Fresno Fire Department Spokesman Koby Johns said.

Seven fire engines from Fresno and Clovis were assisted by two engines from CalFire Fresno County in halting the blaze, which began in a detached garage on 9th Street just south of Jensen Avenue.

The fire quickly spread to the home on the property, but firefighters were able to halt the blaze's advance to neighboring homes.

"The home and garage were a total loss," said Johns, who estimated the damage at $125,000.

Two people were treated for minor injuries at the scene and released.
