Fresno State graduation organizers are reminding people coming for the Saturday morning ceremony at the Save Mart Center that westbound Highway 168 will be closed between Shepherd and McKinley avenues from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturday for an unrelated event -- the California Classic Century Ride.
Plan to use an alternate route, arrive early or expect traffic delays.
Nearly 2,000 cyclists are expected to be pedaling on the ride. They're headed out of downtown and riding against the flow of traffic, meaning eastbound 168 will be open to motorists heading toward Fresno State from Clovis and the foothills.
Parking will be free at the Save Mart Center for all commencement events on campus.
The procession starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Save Mart Center and doors open for seating at 8 a.m. Throughout the day, there will be 20 college and school convocations, in addition to department and program celebrations at numerous locations. More than 5,600 students will be awarded degrees this year.
Some smaller venues require tickets due to limited seating. For ticketing and contact information for each event, view the complete commencement schedule online at www.fresnostate.edu/studentaffairs/commencement.
People attending outdoor events are reminded to prepare for hot temperatures. The university said the air-conditioned Save Mart Center will remain open all day Saturday as a place for people to escape the heat.
Water and Gatorade will be available for purchase inside the Save Mart Center and Student Recreation Center. First-aid stations will also be set up.
Vending machines and water fountains are located in close proximity to all events taking place elsewhere on campus, and for participating students, water is also available in the graduate staging area.
