Residential fire contained in southeast Fresno

The Fresno BeeMay 14, 2014

A quick response by the Fresno Fire Department Wednesday evening limited the damage of a fire in a crowded neighborhood in southeast Fresno.

Battalion chief Casey Clark said that the department responded to the corner of North First Street and East Nevada Avenue within a minute of the call. Firefighters found two sheds and an unoccupied detached garage fully engulfed and extinguished the flames before they spread to nearby homes.

Clark said that Wednesday's hot temperatures and uncleared tree branches near the sheds contributed to the fire's rapid spread. He recommends that owners keep their homes clear of garbage and debris to minimize the risk of serious fire.
