Kaiser Pass road above Huntington Lake will be open to traffic starting Tuesday, the United States Forest Service announced.

The route gives adventurers access to high-country spots such as Portal Forebay, Mono Hot Springs, Edison Lake and Florence Lake.

Fresno Audubon moves Wednesday Walk on May 21

The Fresno Audubon Society has changed the location of its Wednesday walk on May 21 to Grant Grove and Panamoric Point in Kings Canyon National Park.

The group will meet for a rideshare at 8 a.m. at the northeast corner of the Target parking lot at Bullard and Blackstone avenues in Fresno. Another stop will be made at the USFS station in Dunlap at 8:45-9 a.m.

Backpacking by Bike

When: 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday

Where: REI Fresno, 7810 N. Blackstone Ave.

The REI Outdoor School is hosting a workshop on bikepacking -- backpacking by mountain bike. Bikepacking allows people to cover more miles than hiking plus access to dirt roads and trails that were once inaccessible. The class will cover how to outfitt your bike, what gear to bring, and how to properly plan your trip.
