Huron Community Enhancement Foundation set up to aid community

A new nonprofit organization, Huron Community Enhancement Foundation, has been established to support public safety and promote educational and economic opportunity in the Huron community, said Huron police Chief George Turegano.

Through donations, the foundation hopes to provide programs that counter domestic violence and involvement with gangs and drugs. The foundation also hopes to offer after-school activities and health care education.

The foundation's board includes Turegano and several business people and civic leaders. Turegano said the foundation hopes to obtain IRS approval of its nonprofit status by August.
