Visalia event highlights 'Superheroes' for social change

Organizers expect hundreds of teens and adults to attend a Saturday afternoon event in downtown Visalia: "Coming Out for Justice: Superheroes for Social Change."

The event from noon-4 p.m. at the Garden Street Plaza is planned by the Female Leadership Academy, a program of ACT for Women and Girls of Tulare County. Keynote speaker Kayla Wilson of the Fresno County Office of Education will talk at 12:45 p.m. on teen parenting, domestic violence and higher education. At 2:15, Visalia Unified School Board Member Lucia Vazquez will speak on the importance of civic engagement, and at 3:15 Visalia City Council Member Amy Shuklian will give the second keynote speech on female leadership and congratulate FLA's ninth graduating class.
