Fresno Musical Club scholarship winners in concert

Established in 1905, the Fresno Musical Club for decades elevated the cultural scene in the Valley by bringing in some of the biggest names in classical music, including Artur Rubinstein, Jascha Heifetz and Isaac Stern.

Friday, the club's main function is to encourage young musicians by awarding scholarships.

The Fresno Musical Club's Young Artists Awards Concert will be held 4 p.m. Saturday in the Bonner Auditorium at the Fresno Art Museum, 2233 N. First St.

There are five winners:

-- William Chen, violin: Hildred Minich Scholarship.

-- Shahen Ohanian, tenor: Fresno Musical Club Young Singer Award

-- Michael Delfin, piano: Susan Torres Award.

-- Kelly Walker, soprano, and Xin Zhao, piano: Bell T. Ritchie Award.

Audience members will have the opportunity to listen to the winners perform.

Admission is free. A reception follows.
