The Fresno BeeMay 6, 2014

Traffic is being diverted on northbound Interstate 5 south of Patterson after a big rig caught fire Tuesday morning, Caltrans reported.

The big rig was carrying appliances when it caught fire near Fink Road about 5 a.m. The blaze sparked a grass fire.

The California Highway Patrol is routing traffic around the fire. About 7:35 a.m., the CHP reported one lane of the interstate had been opened near Fink Road. The second lane remained closed.
