The Scoopys: Student filmmakers honored at Bee's festival

High school students and film enthusiasts were honored Saturday at The Scoopys: The Fresno Bee Student Film Festival.

The festival, held at Tower Theatre, featured nearly 60 student-made films and was followed by an awards show honoring winners in nine categories.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE: There’s one more award to give out -- the People’s Choice. Vote by "liking" a film on The Fresno Bee’s YouTube page.

This is the first year The Bee has held the festival. The Scoopys were created in partnership with the Community Media Access Collaborative (CMAC) as a way to encourage high school-age filmmakers in the craft. Eleven high schools participated in the event.

The winners:

Best in Show: “Stickies” by C’anna Rix (Sierra High School).

Best Documentary: “The Bboy Club” by Dustine Hacbang, Thai Vang and Abu Taha (Sanger High School).

Best Comedy: “The Legend of Stevie” by Jason Duong (Buchanan High School).

Best Animated Short: “The Paper Boy” by Andre Sitolini (Buchanan High School).

Best Drama: “Stickies” by C’anna Rix (Sierra High School).

Best Editing: “Dimensions” by Jimmy Zacher (Sierra High School).

Best Performance: Matthew Key in “How to Properly Threaten Someone” (Buchanan High School).

Best Ensemble: Nikk Arcino, Ronnie Wells, Calvin Kammer and Nate Rodriguez in “The Legend of Stevie” (Buchanan High School).

Best Director: C’anna Rix for “Stickies” (Sierra High School).
