Picking the perfect Mother's Day gift can be challenging. You want something that will wow her, but not break the bank.
We hit up some retailers in Fresno and Clovis to see what they recommend. Here's what they suggest:
Chewbeads necklaces, $39. Big chunky necklaces are popular, but as moms of little ones know, they go straight into babies' mouths. Chewbeads necklaces are safe for babies to chew on. They are phthalate- and BPA- free, dishwasher safe and soft on gums. They come in lots of colors, from neutrals to bright blue and pink. Pum Bum boutique, 1102 E Champlain Dr.
Ellen Tracy three-quarter sleeve sequin cardigan, $79.50, Macy's. This shimmery silver cardigan has an easy fit and is good for layering. Add the matching short sleeve sweater for $74.50 if you want.
Vintage vases, $20 and up. When flowers die, the gift is gone, but not if you present them in a cool vintage vase. The owners of Fifth Street Antiques in Old Town Clovis recommend buying a unique vase — they come in all sizes, shapes and colors at the store — and having a florist fill it with a bouquet. They also suggest putting flowers in vintage pieces that weren't meant to be vases, such as pitchers or old tin coffee pots. The pieces can be displayed on their own, say on a dresser or bathroom counter, even without flowers. Fifth Street Antiques, 460 Pollasky Ave.
Azadouhi Jewelry, $28-42. Fresno-based jewelry maker Kathleen Chavoor-Bergen uses quartz crystals, turquoise and other natural materials to make bracelets, earrings and necklaces. "Azadouhi" is the feminine form of the word "free," a nod to her heritage. The jewelry is for sale online at www.etsy.com/shop/azadouhijewelry and at two stores downtown: Peeve's Local Market at 1243 Fulton Mall and Misc. Trading Co. at 2017 Tuolumne St.
Family tree shadow box, Pottery Barn, $125. This shadow box features a metal tree that can be personalized by adding your own family photos. Pottery Barn also carries smaller frames that can be monogrammed with mom's initials.
Local food gift boxes, $30-$100, Bella Frutta. This local farming family sells gift boxes of local foods: olive oil, nuts, dried fruit, jam and biscotti. You can order them online and have them shipped to mom at www.bellafrutta.com. Or, go to the store at 1959 N Willow Ave. in Clovis and pick one out yourself.
