A 21-year-old man died after his car crashed into a traffic signal pole early Friday in northeast Fresno.

Fresno police were dispatched shortly before 1 a.m. to Bullard Avenue between Cedar and Chestnut avenues, where they found the man pinned in his white Chrysler sedan, Fresno police Lt. Joe Gomez said.

The man, whose name had not been released pending notification of his family, is believed to have crashed into the traffic light while traveling east on Bullard Avenue. After striking the pole head-on, his vehicle struck a larger metal streetlight pole.

The man died shortly after being transported by paramedics to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, Gomez said.

It is not known if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, Gomez said.
