About 150 people turned out Thursday to take part in the 2014 Christian Observance of the National Day of Prayer on May 1, 2014, in front of Fresno City Hall.

Pastors from eight churches participated, offering prayers for city leaders, U.S. military members, local police and fire departments, area educators, local media and businesses, as well as local families.

Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin and police Chief Jerry Dyer took part, as did Pete Menjares, president of Fresno Pacific University.
