The science and technology education nonprofit FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) gave Clovis' Callie Carbajal an award for outstanding achievement last week.

FIRST, founded by inventor Dean Kamen, distributes the yearly awards to the students who best exemplify leadership skills, teamwork, and FIRST ideals. Carbajal and the other nine Dean's List Award winners were all part of the FIRST Robotics Competition.

Winners will receive a written recommendation from FIRST to colleges and employers of their choosing and an expenses-paid trip to the award ceremony in Manchester, N.H. in the summer.
