Fresno County Supervisor Henry Perea organizes bone marrow drive for leukemia patient

Fresno County Supervisor Henry Perea will open a bone marrow drive in northwest Fresno on Friday morning for a woman suffering from leukemia.

The drive for 31-year-old Melissa Hurtado will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at the Central California Blood Center located at 4343 W. Herndon Ave. and will conclude the following Friday at 5 p.m. There will also be a blood drive to help other patients in need at Valley hospitals.

Hurtado needs the marrow due to a rare form of leukemia. Potential donors are encouraged to join the National Marrow Donor Program Registry, which will determine if a particular donor is a match.
