Fresno Unified parents to get student grades via text message

The Fresno BeeApril 30, 2014

Keeping tabs on a young person's grades and attendance records will soon become easy with a new parent texting service Fresno Unified expects to roll out in several weeks.

Parents will get a daily text showing their students' grades and attendance starting on May 12, district Superintendent Michael Hanson said Wednesday.

Hanson said the texting service will help parents stay on top of how their kids are doing in school -- and whether they're showing up or are late to class each day.

"That is simply going to change the game," he said, noting parents will no longer have to log online if they want a quick checkup on their child's progress. The district already offers up-to-date online student records.
