Temperance-Kutner fifth-grader recognized nationally for reading improvement

A fifth-grader from Temperance-Kutner Elementary in east Fresno was one of 13 students who received national recognition for significant improvement in reading skills.

In an announcement Monday, Jamaica Williams was awarded for her improvement using Scholastic System 44, which is aimed toward at-risk readers in grades 3-12.

Each winner will receive a $1,200 check from Scholastic to be used toward furthering his or her education. The winning students' nominating teachers also will receive $1,000 worth of Scholastic educational materials for their classrooms.
