Rowell Elementary students get huge shoe donation

The Fresno BeeApril 17, 2014

Skechers shoes partnered with Famous Footwear and the K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers charity last week to donate 900 pairs of shoes to students at Rowell Elementary School in southeast Fresno.

The 900 pairs was more than enough to ensure each student got a new pair. The school's enrollment is around 800.

All of the shoes are from the BOBS from Skechers line. Since the Manhattan Beach-based shoe company launched the BOBS brand in 2011, it has donated more than 7 million pairs of new shoes to children in need. Skechers partners with Head Start programs, education foundations, homeless shelters and nonprofits worldwide.

The Rowell donation coincided with the recent opening of a Famous Footwear store at Marketplace at El Paseo, the new shopping center in northwest Fresno.

Friday's event included treats from Fresno's Cupcake Bakery and a visit from the Fresno Grizzlies mascot.
